PlayStation 3 Goes secure

Trend Micro have joined forces with Sony in a bit to protect gamers on PlayStation 3 and the PSP Formats by offering security services for both the above consoles. We are all aware of the dangers around internet crime and this is surely a step in the right direction.

A spokesperson for Trend Micro has said “We are happy to announce this partnership with Sony today. By having our technology in place, PS3 and PSP users all over the world can enjoy a fully connected gaming experience without the worries of internet crime,” commented Rik Ferguson, senior security advisor from Trend Micro.

Trend Micro Kids’ Safety which blocks connection to harmful websites
When user accesses websites from PS3 or PSP, URL filtering technology is used to block access to websites classified as belonging to certain categories (Adult/Sex, Cults/The Occult, Gambling, Crime, Illegal Drugs, Alcohol/Tobacco, Sex Education, Weapons/Military and Violence/Discrimination etc), thereby reducing the risk of children accessing harmful websites.

Trend Micro Web Security for protection against internet crime such as fraudulent acquisition of passwords

When user accesses website from PS3 or PSP, verification from domain name is performed against the high speed Web Reputation Database for assessment of website safety. Web Reputation supports Trend Micro’s special cloud based security technology architecture Trend Micro Smart Protection Network, correlation with the File Reputation Services and E-mail Reputation Services. In this way, connection to malicious websites, such as fraudulent sites, is immediately blocked and the fraudulent acquisition of account information or passwords is prevented.
